Eat a Great Meal, Nourish a Kid
(Written by Carole Zimmer)
New York, April 14 -- On May 9th, join us for a great Peruvian meal and a chance to do good at the same time. Proceeds from the evening at Ají Bar/Lounge in Brooklyn’s historic Park Slope will go towards opening a home for Peruvian street children.
Sip a Pisco Sour, munch on delicacies like fresh diced fish and red onions marinated in lime juice. Sample potato stuffed with spiced ground beef served with ají rocoto cream sauce. To satisfy your sweet tooth, nibble on delicate crepes filled with dulce de leche sauce.
The company will be delightful and the food unforgettable but it is the cause that will bring you the most satisfaction.
Your presence will help us to make a difference in altering these stark realities: 45 percent of the Peruvian population lives below the poverty line, and 43 percent of children under 5, who live in Cusco, where our residence will be located, suffer from chronic malnutrition. Thousands of children are abandoned, fending for themselves in the streets.
Your host for this exotic evening is Dahlia Rissman, who first went to Peru in 2002 for an eco-adventure and wound up falling in love with the country and its people. While teaching English at an elementary school in Cusco, Rissman raised the money to paint a bright mural on the school’s dour façade, then established a library.
Now Rissman is opening a home for street children in Cusco. The residential facility will take in girls from 5 to 10 years old, providing them with academic tutoring, health care and vocational skills training.
Join us for a good time; help us celebrate a good cause.
