Expansion in 2011

January 23, 2011
Buenas notcias everyone!

In 2011 we will be adding 3 new staff members to our team in Peru, and we'll be sending some excellent volunteers down to the center to work with the kids and collaborate with our Peruvian staff.  In February we will work on infusing the arts into our programming, adding more room for kids to be creative and express themselves through different mediums. We will be incorporating music and dance into the program to supplement the literacy intervention and homework help that is already going on.

This year, we are participating in a recycling program through Planet Green Recycle.  Save your ink cartridges and old cell phone!  We will be collecting them.  When we mail in those items, and Corazon de Dahlia will raise money.  If you know of an office or school that would like a collection box and flyers about the program, contact us, and we will get you what you need.

Our Amazon Wish List has been a huge success!  We have received many generous donations of books, school supplies, and educational materials.  Thank you to all of those who have contributed.  There are still many items on the list that have not yet been purchased.

Check back soon for more updates about the great work that we are doing in Peru!

Thanks!
Dahlia

Progress in Peru!

December 11, 2010

Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,

The poverty that is faced by the children and families with whom we work is hard to fathom. Some families have limited or no access to clean water and electricity, and many families live in a small, single room that serves as kitchen, dining room, and bedroom.

Since Corazon de Dahlia opened our Center for the Promotion of Child & Family Development in Saylla, Peru on June 4, 2010, we have been providing academic and social intervention to indigenous...

Dear Supporters,

As you know, Corazon de Dahlia opened the Center for the Promotion of Child & Family Development in the town of Saylla, Peru (just outside of Cusco), in June of this year. We would like to share with you the tremendous progress that has been made, thanks to your generosity.

Our team in Peru has collaborated with the local mayor, school teachers, and families to create an academic and social intervention program for high-needs children in the community. Over the past fo...

Power in Numbers - Help a Child in Need

August 2, 2010
If I can get 5,000 people to donate $10, Corazon de Dahlia could raise $50,000. That would be enough to fund our Center for the Promotion of Child & Family Development in Peru for an entire year! If you have already given to Corazon de Dahlia this year, you could play your part by posting this on your wall, inviting friends to the cause, or better yet, spreading the word about what we are doing.

What started out as an individual effort to paint and refurbish a school, establish a libr...

Karina Arrived Safely

August 2, 2010
Corazon de Dahlia's International Volunteer, Karina, arrived in Cusco yesterday for four months of service work and adventure.  Karina is a graduate of Tufts University, who will be working directly with the children at our center and with our Peruvian staff members throughout her stay.

Karina reported that the bus ride from Lima to Cusco was an incredibly long journey, and she will certainly opt to fly on the return trip.  She said that her host family has been really nice, and they are alr...

New Blog

July 22, 2010
Corazon de Dahlia will be starting a new blog!

Did you know that our Director, Laura, and our Psychologist, Marleni, have collected data on 80 families in the community by interviewing family members, making home visits, and talking to teachers and school administrators?  We are currently assessing the situation, so that we tailor our programs to the needs of the community.

Did you know that we are sending a full time volunteer down to Peru to work at our center for the next four months?
